One of the buildings has been demolished, the one closest to the stadium.  Others are sealed tight.

Definitely no longer abandoned.  Repurposed as an education center.  Nicely preserved from what I can tell.

thanks, the macros were a result of me being lazy and not changing lenses out...but i enjoyed the result and I'm glad you did as well.

#20 was something of a happy accident.  I hit the shutter button while walking and had the camera at a good angle, strange how sometimes follies turn into good shots

It's been a little while since I've been able to devote a good weekend to exploring, but last weekend, the gates were open so I went exploring.  I had some awesome french food (not pictured) and woke with a hangover in a great exploring city, and hit up a few fun spots.  Here are the results:

Everything else / St Elizabeth's Hospital
« on: January 08, 2012, 11:26:39 AM »
Addy:

1100 Alabama Avenue SE
Washington, D.C.

Construction/Renovation has started for the new Homeland Security operations.  Supposedly the directory of homeland security will have the office in the admin section of the kirkbride.

It is currently accessible with GSA permission only, and is heavily guarded, as well as many construction workers all over.  The kirkbride still has yet to fall into renovation, and is wide open, but access inside is not allowed.

I have to verify this location is still abandoned, I heard some gossip yesterday that it may be in use.  I'll update when I know for sure.

Address: 600 Alabama Avenue, S.E. Washington, D.C.

Yeah, everyone in MD/DC/VA knows about it, but its pretty much the easiest place in MD to hit up.

Coords: 39.353315,-76.91524

If you're in the MD area hit me up, I can usually make a trip up if its the right day.

I'm not sure about lately, security may have been upped, but typically this place is easy as cheese.

We have a bunch of textile places near me but they have almost nothing left in them.  This place kicks some serious ass.  Nice job!

Thanks, I would love to see some of the ones near you sometime.  This place is very unique with its situation, which lends itself to some wonderful shots.

you are my hero. flat out. i fucking love your work!! depth of field is sick!! sick!!! you're whole set is fucking amazing!! i def just creamed myself a lil haha!!

thanks, I appreciate the praise, but I think a lot of it is also the place itself :)

Great shots of this place.  My fiance' and I did a tour of it back in June and I really want to get back there before the owner starts selling off the equipment.  Love those labels, didn't come across any when I was there.  Nice find.

thanks.  the owner is awesome, I think he'll be hanging on for some time, but he's definitely making plans for the place.

After I ran about the place for the visit he and I started chatting w/ the owner and I mentioned my GF was Japanese.  At that point he started telling me about the history of the place and that a lot (if not all) of the silk came from Japan.  He then pulled out the flyers that he had found around the place and had even put some of them in protective sleeves.  He has a real appreciation for the place, which is very nice to see.

new house + new gf + new puppy = mentok only getting out during a blue moon to explore.

here are some (relatively) oldies from earlier this year.  it was pay for entry, but there were no limitations on where and what to shoot, i.e. awesome owner of this place.

oh, and CNN did film there, I have yet to hear when it will air...
