MA Medfield - Medfield State Hospital

This place is open to the public so it's worth the trip because you're free to take photos as you walk along the grounds and take your time.  I wish other locations were open to the public too!  (see comments below) It's located at 45 Hospital Road.

Shutter Island and The Box were filmed here.  This may sound weird but in addition to the old buildings, you can also find some interesting birds and bugs there - if you're into that sort of thing.  I found the coolest beetle there.

The hospital was built in 1892 and is about 900 acres in size.

Last I heard that was not the case (which is retarded), although it was for a while. Anyone know for sure?

Interesting.  I was there a few months ago and I went over to the security trailer to make sure they were cool with me walking around with a camera and they said yes.  Maybe that's changed since then.

It goes back and forth, the first time i went in 2003 i walked right on, then in 2006 you couldn't , medfield is one of those places i think it depends on the guard company you get

I walked the campus the summer of 2010 i think and they didnt mind.
