Some sites list Taunton State Hospital as being demolished. The old hospital and administration is long gone, but there are other buildings, larger and smaller, that are active on the property. Both DYS (The Department of Youth Services) and The Department of Mental Health are active on the premises. This means DMH Police are still active despite almost the entire kirk being demolished.

As of recent, there has been much talk of closing the rest of the facility. Although the buildings are large and with their size have a good capacity, the services have been declining rapidly over the past few years. There have only been under 200 patients there for the past couple years. Many thought that the closing was inevitable, especially with the scaling back of those services, and others are fighting to keep the institution open.
