So John calls, Lets do this old school he says, What do you mean? "
Me and you like old times, No mission, No reason, No BS " Im
down with that. I shine up my gear and head for the meeting point. I
sit in my vehicle looking for him. Once I find where he is sitting, I
jump in his car and we head out to the location that started our
friendship. We park, check our gear and head in. It was a quiet walk
to our entry point. But once we both got that musty smell of
abandoness, It all came flooding back. I got a new maglight and the
damn thing lights up the place like the sun, so for me it was like
seeing a place ive been to a million times for the first time. Tonight I
came across so many chalk scribblings I had made before I knew
UrbEx was even a term. I felt old but yet a seasoned veteran of
UrbEx. It was like a scrap book not just for me and DSIA,
But also A timeline dating back to a day where there was no
UE politics, no infighting, no website to website
clashes. A day when I thought only my friends and I
did this. I was saddened to see the shape of my
favorite haunt, but thats the fact of UrbEx , no
location is forever so enjoy it while its still there. Also
on a side note, when I go exploring I try to take a few
pics of my fellow explorers walking away from me so
I can get a pic of them without their face for these
updates, Damn DSIA kept turning around just as I
would snap the pic. ( I got photoshop yaaaaay!!) .
As we treked through the maze of madness, I saw
things I never would have noticed tour guiding for
NEUEA/SS5 projects. Tonight was simple. Me and
John with no real plan or mission.
Tonight gave a lifeline to my burnedout feelings on UE. I feel as if
the reset button has been pushed. If you go Urban Exploring,
remember the first place that really got you into UrbEx and go
there. just hang out, go to all the places you went on your first time,
and reflect on your path to now. We are all the gears that make this
hobby happen. Never forget who you were before and after you
started exploring. Every explorer is a story waiting to be told. Tell it
and don't hold back anything. Thanks John for reminding me why I
do this
